Our Day with Historical Society 2024

Poulton & Wyre Railway Society were very pleased to receive an invite from Lynda from the Poulton-le-Fylde Historical and Civic Society to have a stand at their Heritage Open Day on Saturday 20th July, 2024.

It was lovely to be given the chance to publicise our efforts to secure the railway to Fleetwood for the future, restoring of the track and education in the history of the line.

Bill Eccles, Dave Evans and Peter Banks brought all the pics and posters and set up in the Methodist church hall.

It being a sunny day they looked forward to lots of visitors.

Our Stand

There were:

  • Lovely vintage posters reminding everyone that Fleetwood was an elegant destination, with its acres of blue sky over sandy beaches, floral display gardens and all that healthy ozone.
  • Before and after pictures of track and station renovations at Burnaze and Thornton For Cleveleys. A timely reminder that the line could so easily have been built over if it hadn't been for our volunteers.
  • A chance for our active members to be pictured in slightly smudged high vis, bit of a theme going on.
  • Pictures of one of our vintage carriages being rescued from 4ft of undergrowth and a neat tech drawing of how it will be once renovated.

The visitors took the opportunity to discuss how things were and enquire as to how things might be in the future.

Another good day spent with purpose.
