The ticket office at Thornton Station has recently been refurbished, thanks to a very generous donation from a member of public, who wished to remain anonymous.
The donor wished to show his gratitude to the Poulton & Wyre Railway Society for the transformation at Thornton Station, which was once such an eyesore before the PWRS occupied the site.
The decision was taken to use the donation to paint the outside woodwork and decorate the interior of the ticket office and create an information centre.
There were also sufficient funds to purchase notice boards to display information on the history of the line.
Since completing the refurbishment we have had a number of visitors, most notably a large group of school children who showed a great deal of interest in the history of the railway that once operated next to their school.
Kind thanks to Baines Endowed School for permission to use the above photo.
