Unfortunately, due to the prolonged poor weather conditions and very low temperatures last winter, we were unable to make any progress with the external painting of the Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU).
As a result, the Committee made the decision to make the overhaul of our class 108 our number one priority, and to leave the external painting until a later date.
Instructions have given to MRC Butterley to start some of this work and this recent photograph (taken by member Chris Griffin), shows that one of the bogie springs has been removed and sent off for repair.
Discussions are now underway with MRC to arrange the overhaul of the engines and drives and cab controls.
Further updates will be provided as the work gets underway.
We are hoping to bring the Diesel Multiple Unit to the Thornton area early in 2019 which will enable our own members to carry out restoration work on the units themselves.
A site has been identified but there is still quite a bit of planning to carry out first to make it ready. Further details will be provided in due course.
Some of the estimated repair costs have increased and we are still seeking further funds. If you would like to help us restore our Class 108 please use one of the methods at the foot of this page to make a donation.
