DMU Appeal, Apr '20

Please help us restore our Class 108 Diesel Multiple unit. Both carriages are now safely located at our site in Thornton ready for our members to start working on them.

However, we will have to wait until the Coronavirus restrictions are lifted before our members can start any further restoration work, but this gives us the opportunity to plan the work required, raise additional funds, recruit new members and source necessary equipment.

Donations

We urgently need to raise additional funds to restore our Class 108 DMU. If you can help, please donate to our Rolling Stock Fund, no matter how small the amount. Every pound helps us achieve our aim to restore our 60-year-old train to working order.

There are several ways you can donate. Please see the bottom of this page for details.

Other Forms of Donations

Over the last few years, we have received several donations in the form of railway books, railway DVDs, railway paintings or memorabilia. We are happy to receive these types of donations which we can then sell at events to raise funds.

Sorry, but we cannot sell VHS videos or railway magazines as there is no demand for them.

Members

All members can visit our sites during work sessions and we are looking for more members to get involved in helping to restore our Class 108 DMU.

Why not pay us a visit, once the Coronavirus restrictions are lifted, to see what is going on and chat to the team leaders?

Many of our active members have never worked on restoring a train before, but they can work alongside people with existing railway experience, learn new skills and contribute to the success of the project.

Non-Members

Why not join us and help restore the DMU?

If you would like to get involved in helping to restore our Class 108 DMU, or even just support us from afar, why not join the Society?

Take a look at our Membership page for details.

Equipment Required

We need to source various items of equipment to help us to carry out work on the Class 108 DMU. Some of the work required is on the roofs and it is essential that our members work safely.

We are looking to obtain items such as scaffolding towers, scaffolding and boards and mobile warehouse platform safety steps.

If you are located in the FY or PR postcode areas and have any surplus equipment which you can donate or lend to the Society, please get in touch.
